It’s bigger than ranked choice voting… When we passed that initiative as citizens and then reaffirmed that passage four years later, we were talking about limiting dark money in these elections. That was part of that bill. Opening up our primaries so that everyone has the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Then ranked choice voting, which actually lowered the number of people we have in gubernatorial and congressional races toward the end, because it limits it to four. Those four give you the opportunity to pick your first choice and have a backup plan.
Believe me, I’ve learned this at the local level. I’ve learned this in my own home. It’s always good to have a backup plan. I think ranked choice works for the state. It’s made us work better together. It’s helped build these bipartisan coalitions that instead of screaming at each other, we’re focused on actually achieving policy.
