Proportional Representation
Our Vision: True Representation
It’s about fairness, representation, and making every vote count.
The Problem
-
Winner-take-all elections shut out millions of voters whose candidates fall short.
-
Huge swaths of Americans are left with no voice in Congress or state legislatures.
-
This fuels polarization: whole districts are “safe seats” for one party, while others are perpetually ignored.
The Impact
-
Minority voices and new perspectives are underrepresented.
-
Voters feel their ballots are wasted, leading to disengagement.
-
Power swings wildly between parties instead of fostering stability.
Our Solution
Proportional representation makes representation match reality.
How It Works
-
Districts. Larger, multi-member districts replace single-winner seats.
-
Voting Method. Parties or candidates earn seats in proportion to their share of the vote using a single transferable vote voting method, also known as proportional ranked choice voting.
Merits of Proportional Representation
-
Fairer Representation – Every vote matters and contributes to real power. A majority of voters can elect their preferred candidate(s) along with smaller, united voting blocs.
-
More Voices at the Table – Diverse communities and perspectives gain seats.
-
More Problem-Solving – With no single party monopoly, coalitions must form to govern.
-
Less Polarization – Extreme factions lose dominance when seats reflect broad support.
Proof of Concept
-
Common across democracies worldwide – from Germany to New Zealand.
-
Stable, representative governments with higher voter satisfaction.
