On November 3, Longmont, CO voters said yes to ranked choice voting (RCV), with 56% in favor. Longmont will now use RCV for mayoral and City Council elections beginning in 2029 – with proportional RCV in the Council races.
”More meaningful choices
With this win in Longmont, ranked choice voting has passed in 35 of the last 37 city ballot measures. Results for RCV measures in Irvine, CA, and Alaska are expected in the coming days.
The ballot measure was endorsed by a wide range of state and local elected officials, including Mayor Susie Hidalgo-Fahring, who said:
I support ranked choice voting because it gives voters more meaningful choices and allows them to vote on the candidate they truly favor. RCV encourages candidates to reach beyond their core supporters to build broader coalitions and listen to more of the community.
