Great news from Virginia yesterday!
After accepting Governor Spanberger’s technical amendments, the bill expanding #RankedChoiceVoting became law.
This expands the number of localities that can choose to use #RCV and makes the option permanent.

It’s official. The first pro-RCV legislation in the country since 2023 has now passed in Virginia!
Today, both chambers of the General Assembly voted to accept Gov. Spanberger’s technical amendments to the bills, concluding the process of the bill becoming a law.
The recent #RCV ban in Ohio seeks to limit the ability of voters to fully express their preferences and have more choices without vote splitting.

In 2024, DC voters overwhelmingly chose to adopt #RankedChoiceVoting and #OpenPrimaries in the district. Currently, the #RCV portion has been funded, but not the semi-open primary provision, which threatens to exclude 85,000 independents from a meaningful say in elections.
