A new survey conducted by Verasight in partnership with Fix Our House and New America finds that a majority of Americans support the core concepts of proportional representation, even though most are unfamiliar with the specific term.

The nationwide poll of 1,000 respondents, conducted from June 30 to July 7, 2026, revealed that 50% of Americans support proportional representation when given a brief definition, compared to 24% who oppose it. The remaining respondents indicated they were not sure. This margin of support held across Democratic, Republican, and Independent affiliations.
